Cleaning Out the Chemicals
There’s no question that the U.S. has the safest water supply in the world. Yet, chlorine and other chemicals that are used to keep our water bacteria-free can also cause long-term health problems. Many health experts believe they should be removed before you drink the water or bathe in it.
Hard Water: Facts About Your Water
Most local water supplies in the U.S., including our part of the country, have ‘hard’ water, with
dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium. Hard water can cause a number of problems, for
you and your house.
For instance, hard water requires more soaps and detergents to get you, your dishes and your laundry clean, so you’ll spend more on soaps and detergents. It can also wrinkle skin and harm hair. Just as important, the minerals in hard water will form deposits called limescale. It’s the white crust you may have seen on the end of your faucet, showerhead or even your tea kettle. Limescale buildup causes many problems, including:
- Clogged pipes, which reduces water flow and pressure
- Corrosion inside appliances like washing machines, water heaters and dishwashers.
