Summer is one of the most popular times of the year. Many people use the summer to take vacations and do lots of fun outdoor activities. During the summer, there will likely be more people in your home. That’s why it is important that you pay attention to your plumbing. Luckily, there are many preventative plumbing measures that you can take to help you avoid potential summer plumbing issues. Here are several plumbing tips to assist you during the summer.

Leaking Issues

Summer is an important time to look for leaks. Check your faucets, pipes under the sink and hot water heater to make sure that they are working properly. Look for any signs of rust, corrosion, or leaks. Check the floater valve in your toilet. If it isn’t sealed correctly, water might leak out and cause your toilet to run. Use a flashlight to inspect your water heater. Mineral deposits may build up and restrict water flow.

Check the Main Water Valve

The plumbing system runs under your home. If the main value is open, water will continue to run. If you have a swimming pool or a sprinkler, then you’ll need to check the main water valve to make sure nothing goes wrong inside the house.

Check for Clogs

If the drain gets clogged, that can cause the drain to run slowly while also potentially causing flush issues. A regular plunger should normally handle most clogs. If you notice a crack in one of your pipes, call a professional immediately.

Check Your Water Pressure

Because you’ll use your shower regularly during the summer, it is important that you check your water pressure from time to time. You can measure the water pressure by purchasing a gauge. If the pressure is low, you should contact your local water company and see if there is any work being done in the area. That will likely be the cause of your low water pressure. In the event that it is something else, you may need to contact a professional.

Look At Your Washer

Research has shown that many people do more laundry during the summer months than any other season. Inspect your washer by checking the connections of the hoses. You should replace the hoses if you find any cracks in them or any signs of mold or mildew.

Look At Your Gutters

Make sure that your gutters do not have any debris in them, as that could cause draining issues.
